Forestry course heads for quarter century

Practical, popular and potentially profitable, Woodland Heritage is open for bookings for the 24th and 25th running of its ‘Woodland to Workshop’ course due to take place at Whitney Sawmills, Herefordshire later this year.  The two courses are due to take place on 4-6 May and 28-30 September 2020, with the May event the last featuring industry-legend, Gavin Munro, one of the most knowledgeable and respected timber buyers in Britain.

“’Woodland to Workshop’ courses are led by tutors with decades of experience in growing, milling, buying and using timber, each one very successful in doing so profitably as well as sustainably, meaning that armed with the information gained at each course, delegates have every chance of recouping the cost of attending in quick time,” said Kelly Morss of Woodland Heritage.  “With the price now down to £650 for the three days, the option to spread the cost being available, as well as a limited number of competitive bursaries on offer, this really should be the year to sign up for this unique insight into the workings of the whole timber supply chain.”

Stalwart supporters of ‘Woodland to Workshop’ for several years now, Wood-Mizer UK is once again offering a £500 bursary to one lucky individual at both the May and September courses.

Wood-Mizer UK is really keen to welcome new entrants into the timber industry and is delighted to help one attendee at each ‘Woodland to Workshop’ course by giving them a £500 contribution towards the course fees, so that they can learn early in their careers or businesses how wood can be milled to create such a wealth of sustainable products”, said Wood-Mizer UK General Manager, Dave Biggs. “Grant award winner last September, Kit Vaughan of Prime Coppice in Dorset, is a prime example of the sort of enterprise we want to support, bringing an ancient woodland into management to the benefit of people and wildlife, whilst creating a range of opportunities to keep a forestry business active in the long term”.

As well as the Wood-Mizer UK bursary, Woodland Heritage is likely to offer another one or two awards, particularly aimed at students or young foresters to advance their education.

More information about the course can be found at our Woodland to Workshop page, with enquiries about both the course and bursaries to be sent to office@woodlandheritage.org.
