Whitney Sawmills are looking for an experienced sawyer, able to operate both the main Forestor saw and the Stenner re-saw, as well as having a willingness to learn other aspects of the operations of Whitney Sawmills to enable the business to be run as flexibly as possible.
The successful applicant will carry out a range of duties including helping guide log selection, responding to all green beaming orders as they arrive, being aware of priorities, deadlines and quality requirements and being aware of slabbed timber in stock for re-sawing as required.
A role with considerable variety, key to it all will be maintenance of the saws in a safe condition with an overall great awareness of all Health and Safety and fire concerns in the saw area, as well as more widely in the yard and the adjacent workshop and stores.
The postholder will need to be licenced to operate a chainsaw within a workshop environment and to drive forklifts and loaders. Full training will be given for the suitable applicant.
This is a full-time permanent position covering 40 hours per week with 20 days’ annual leave plus eight days of Public Holiday. Paid monthly largely in arrears, the hourly rate will be between £11.39 - £12.76, plus a pension contribution into a qualifying scheme within the meaning of the Pensions Act 2008.
The position is based at Whitney Sawmills, Whitney-on-Wye, Herefordshire, a predominantly hardwood sawmill established for almost 30 years, but owned for the last three by W H Timber Limited, the latter a wholly-owned subsidiary of the charity, Woodland Heritage (number 1041611).
